FAQs

No previous experience or training is necessary to become a Yardley-Makefield Fire Company volunteer firefighter or fire police. In fact, many of our members had no training or experience when they first joined. You will need to attend training and complete your Firefighter I Certification. Everything you need to succeed, including gear, will be provided at no cost to you.

One of the unique challenges of being a firefighter is that you never know what situations you’ll encounter, so you need to train for all of them! Our fire company responds to calls for alarm systems, fire, rescue, water rescue, gas leaks, and more. We are responsible for calls ranging from car accidents on I-295 to water rescues in the Delaware River and from gas leaks in your neighborhood to house fires.

In addition to our volunteer firefighters, we also have Fire Police. Fire Police provide an important service to our community by directing traffic at emergency scenes and keeping our emergency service personnel safe.

All of our firefighters are volunteers. At this time, we do not have any crews who sleep at the firehouse (with the exception of volunteers who choose to stay during significant weather events). Our volunteers stay home and respond to the firehouse whenever there is a call.

We are excited to hear that you’re interested! Please fill out the form on the Request Info Page to get more information, or apply for membership on our Application page and someone will get back to you shortly.
